Malababa, Serrano
07/05/2021
A store founded
on respect for noble materials
and energy economics.
Built the same way we build our collections:
with passion, creativity, consistency and in a sustainable way.
Serrano 8 Malababa rises as a space full of soul, shaping
natural resources in the search of authentic, imperfect beauty,
which becomes more and more beautiful as time goes by.
Natural
walls
All walls are rendered with a mixture of Galician clay,
white marble powder from Almería and
binding agents from the food industry.
All of them being totally natural, ecological and non-toxic.
This kind of render regulates humidity and temperature,
entailing a noticeable energy
saving year-round.
Re-useable
furniture
Mobile modular furniture can combine and
change layouts as needed.
They have been manufactured with limestone
from Seville, aged brass and beautiful blocks of moss
agate gemstone. Some are upholstered with
the same leather we use for our collections.
Artisan
lattice screens
Behind the lattice structure, there is a
great team work. Each piece has been
placed by hand, emitting a cosy warm feeling.
Bricks have been artisanally manufactured
in Toledo using mud sourced in quarries
from Extremadura, baked in an H2G oven,
100% ecological, using biomass as
fuel. The floor covering terracotta comes
from Valencia and it has been baked in a wood oven,
using artisanal processes, having not
involved any non-natural products.
Sustainable
ecocement
Ecocement, the render that covers some of the store interiors,
is sustainable. It is guaranteed by international
certifications such as German Emicode,
which certifies low emision of volatile compounds -VOC-
in building materials.
Vegetable-tanned
leather curtain
This decorative element has been manufactured by
Malababa's very own artisan Osvaldo, from whole
pieces of vegetable-tanned cowhide leather,
the same kind that is used for crafting our collections.
Natural
agate gemstones
These minerals either take a modular shape,
or alternatively they get embedded into our furniture pieces,
creating an irregular, unique and beautiful pattern.
